Christmas at Packhorse

We love the festive period at Packhorse Court and Keswick really is looking magical at the moment!

Last week we switched on the Keswick Christmas lights with fun, games and live music in the Courtyard, it was a fabulous event and we loved seeing all the children joining in with the songs.

Packhorse Court Independents celebrate Independence Day!

In July there is a national campaign to focus on promoting the value of shopping in Independent shops.

The Independents traders got together and decided to celebrate US Independence Day in order to promote the benefits of shopping at your local Independent.   For every £ that you spend in an Independent shop 50p to 70p ends up back in the local economy compared to just 5p at the large multiple retailers.

The traders wanted to take the opportunity to thank everyone who supports them.

The town crier came down and read out the Packhorse Court ‘declaraton of indpendence’

Come forth all ye who wish to hear, the independent traders of Packhorse Court make this honourable declaration to the town of Keswick and to our customers and neighbours.
We shall provide a clean, safe courtyard environment
The courtyard may be used for shopping, browsing or simply relaxing
We shall supply quality goods at affordable prices
We shall engage with our customers at every opportunity and learn from their ever changing needs
We will provide a high level of customer service
We will show our appreciation to our customers by providing occasional entertainment in the courtyard
Our customers can  trust us to be consistent in our offer and approach
We will reward loyalty from our customers
We will remain local independent traders, of the people, for the people, by the people of Keswick’

Diabetic swaps Staples for Sweet Treats…

Keswick, Cumbria, April 2014: The Corner Shop in Packhorse Court, Keswick is undergoing a transformation into Sweet Treats this week.  Gina Price, a 44 year old who has type 1 Diabetes has recently resigned from her role at Staples Advantage in Birmingham and is re-naming and re-styling the popular sweet shop in the heart of the Northern Lakes.  When asked why a sweet shop; surely an odd choice for a diabetic; Gina states the reason she chose a sweet shop is that shopping for sweets brings joy to people and that is what she is looking for, a sense of personal satisfaction from making a difference to your day.

Sweet Treats is a traditional sweet shop selling 250 weigh out jars, pick and mix, chocolate bars, candy bars, ice creams and drinks.  Gina will also be selling homemade treats such as a variety of flavours of fudge, chocolates and gift boxes.  The shop will continue to stock all of your favourite brands, Romneys, Bassetts, Buchanan’s, Haribo, Gibb, Stockley’s, Joseph Dobson, Cadbury, Millions, Jakemans’, Taveners, Lion, Barratts, Grays, Barnetts, and Nestle to name a few!  Gina has also become the latest in a selected list of stockists for Riley’s original Toffee Rolls.

Packhorse court welcomes Gillian Ania as the new owner of The Card collection

The Packhorse Court development welcomes Gillian Ania (née Grisdale) as new owner of The Card Collection.

Gillian took over from Pat and Pete Richards on 1st April 2014, and will be running the shop along very similar lines, continuing to stock a wide range of cards for all occasions, the Me-to-you bears and Gor-juss gifts, and offering a helium balloon service. She has added to this a small selection of ‘art’ and ‘museum’ cards and notelets, and Italian chocolates. This is very much a home-coming for Gillian, who grew up in Keswick, went away to study and teach Italian, and is now delighted to be back.
